Working with pre-cooperative children in the dental chair can be one of the most challenging aspects of pediatric dentistry. This course is designed to help clinicians understand, manage, and effectively treat young patients who are unable or unwilling to cooperate during dental procedures.

Through a blend of theory, live demonstrations, and practical tips, participants will explore evidence-based behavior management strategies, communication techniques, and the psychology behind a child’s fear and resistance. The course will also address how to create a child-friendly environment, gain parental trust, and use both non-pharmacological and pharmacological behavior guidance methods appropriately.

By the end of the session, attendees will gain the confidence and skills to turn “impossible” appointments into successful, positive experiences — transforming the myth of managing pre-cooperative children into a clinical reality.

Key Highlights:

  • Understanding child psychology and stages of cooperation

  • Chairside communication and desensitization techniques

  • Behavior guidance methods: Tell-Show-Do, distraction, positive reinforcement, and more

  • Managing anxiety and fear in pre-cooperative patients

  • When and how to use pharmacological interventions safely

  • Case discussions and live demonstrations
